Support Groups
Healing is a communal journey, and at The Self Inside, our support groups are designed to foster connection, understanding, and empowerment among black women. These groups provide a nurturing environment where you can share your experiences, gain validation, and realize that you're not alone in your struggles. Through mutual support and solidarity, we aim to cultivate a sense of belonging and resilience as you navigate your path toward healing and wholeness.

Common Myths
BECAUSE I AM A STRONG BLACK WOMAN, I DO NOT NEED THERAPY…
Going to therapy does not take away your strength. Actually, showing, coping and releasing your emotions IS strength. Dealing with emotions is sometimes hard so the fact you want to cope and release emotions is strong.
GOING TO THERAPY MEANS I’M CRAZY…
Sis, going to therapy does not mean you are crazy!! It does mean you have noticed that you need support and that is a beautiful thing!!
I CAN’T PRAY AND GO TO THERAPY...
I believe the whole reason I am a therapist is because of GOD, so I absolutely believe you can pray and receive support from therapy. I am a therapist who is very open to speaking about God in sessions. God is the reason we are in the session in the first place right?
I AM NOT SUPPOSED TO TELL ANYBODY MY BUSINESS…
In both the past and sometimes in the present, being honest about what we go through as black people has been hurtful, overlooked, and not taken seriously, so I can understand not wanting to tell your business to a stranger. The whole reason I created The Self Inside was to provide black women and teens a safe space to discuss whatever was on their hearts. Everything that is said stays between us in our session. Now Sis, if your safety is at risk, I will need to tell somebody like your emergency contact but trust, this will not happen behind your back, we will talk about it together first.
IF I GO TO THERAPY, THEY ARE GOING TO MAKE ME TAKE MEDICATION…
Now this is just not true. As a therapist, I can’t even prescribe medication. Now if you choose to take medication, we can talk about it, but this is not something I suggest or enforce.
A THERAPIST WILL MAKE ME GO TO A MENTAL HOSPITAL...
Nope! The hospital for me is the last resort. Before we get to something like this, your safety to yourself and/or others have to be in jeopardy. In this case, it is my responsibility to make sure you are okay.
