Individual Therapy

About Therapy

At The Self Inside, we specialize in empowering black women to navigate and heal from the complexities of intergenerational trauma and racism. Our individual therapy sessions provide a safe and supportive space for you to explore the roots of your past hurts and understand how they manifest in your present experiences. Together, we'll work to uncover and address the impact of these challenges, while cultivating coping skills and fostering new behaviors that align with your healing journey.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my therapist share my information with others?

Nope! As therapists, we MUST keep your information confidential. The only time I would have to tell someone about our session is if you report wanting to hurt yourself, someone else, or someone is trying to hurt you. Outside of that, everything stays in our session.

What happens during the 15 minute free consultation?

In our consultation we will discuss your goals for therapy, pay options, and I can answer any questions you may have for me. PS: I LOVE talking about my history as a social worker and why I chose to do this work :-)

What are some things I can talk about in therapy?

You may talk about WHATEVER you like in sessions. To give you some examples, relational issues, work related stress, self discovery, anxiety, negative thoughts, life transitions, family issues and soooo much more!

What do I need to do before the first session and what happens after?

Before the first session, I will send you paperwork to complete in your client portal. The paperwork is my practice policies, your rights, symptom scales and a form for you to discuss why you would like to attend therapy. Our first session is called the “intake session”, here, I ask you all questions about your current symptoms, childhood, family relationships and school history. This is so I can get a well rounded picture of you and possible things we can work on. After this session, sis, you can talk about whatever you like or need. No worries if you feel like you have nothing to talk about, I can most certainly help you with that!

How can I pay for therapy?

I have both insurance and out-of-pay options. I take Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare and Aetna. If you would like to pay out of pocket, the intake session is $170 and all other sessions are $150.

Is therapy in-person or virtually?

Right now, all therapy is virtually. However, I am reflecting on whether we will go in person in the fall. Please stay tuned!!
